Delta Gamma Wins Poll Position

by la lambchop

It’s official, Delta Gamma claimed the pole position with a time of 2:44.76 on Saturday’s qualification ride at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Delta Gamma was one of the first women’s teams to race early Saturday morning but managed to keep the pole position throughout the day. The team earned the pole position with a 3-second win over defending 2010 champions, Teter, who came in second with a time of 2:47.52. If Saturday’s qualifications are any indication of the things to come, Delta Gamma has a lot to look forward to in the upcoming 2011 Little 500 on April 15th. According to the on-campus newspaper, The Indiana Daily Student, Senior and Delta Gamma cyclist, Kelsey Kent, said that with individual time trials and Miss-N-Out taking place in the coming weeks, the key to success will be continuing to train. “Winning the pole is a big accomplishment, but in the end we train for the race, and that’s what we really want to win,” said Kent in an article published in the IDS.  Only time will tell, but for now, the women of Delta Gamma could not be more proud of their team and will continue to support their sisters in the pursuit of victory.

The Greatest College Weekend

by la lambchop

The Little 500 is the premier intramural collegiate cycling event in the nation. Steeped in tradition and high on enthusiasm, this race and the surrounding weekend activities have earned the reputation of being the best of its kind anywhere in the world. Teams of four ride laps around a quarter-mile cinder track and exchange their bike to a teammate once too tired to continue. The race places fraternities and sororities, residence halls and independent teams in a battle for the ultimate bragging rights of Little 500 winner.

“I’ve attended Super Bowls, World Series and the Monaco Grand Prix, but the coolest event I ever attended was the Little 500..Every sports fan should see it live.”

-Lance Armstrong

Looking Back

by la lambchop

In 2008 Delta Gamma proudly took first place in the Women’s Little 500. Hard work, endless training, determination and an overwhelmingly large fan base were key components in the cyclists’ win. Not only was it an exciting time in Delta Gamma history but before he was elected, President Obama, stopped by on his campaign tour to show his support and cheer the women to victory. Today, the supportive and encouraging spirit of the women of Delta Gamma is more visible than ever and will be shown on the track in the months to come.

As of 2010, Delta Gamma ranked third in the all-time Women’s Little 500 race results. The chapter has competed in 21 of 23 races; finished in the top ten 16 times; and averaged placing 7.9. The first-place team is Kappa Alpha Theta, and the second-place team is Kappa Kappa Gamma.
